A beautiful day. Feel very badly so nervous + lame + sore all over. Edith + Audrea have gone to Boston to do a little shopping. I feel today as if I was foolish to send for anything, but I hope I will be better tomorrow. Edith has got back but left three dollars worth of purchases behind her is dreadfully worries. says she will go in tomorrow morning + see if she can find them. The Baldwins run in tonight at what would be bedtime for any one else. Stayed about two hours. Mr B says Edith will never see her goods again. Feel a little better. I need some one to speak to once in a while.
Wednesday 29 A dull + rainy day so dark we need a light to see what we are doing. I mean an artificial light. Dont feel very well and dreading Edith going away. feel very babyish + lonesome. Amozelle came in + had some dinner which she seemed to enjoy. We shall miss her running in. Did a little mending. Katherine Blasdale run in with Audrea’s sweater. After she went I read aloud in the “Depot Master” + went to bed.
Tuesday 28 A most beautiful morning Amozelle called in the morning but did not sit down as full of business as she could hold. Thought we might go out tonight but it is clouding up fast + also it is 4 o’clock Clarence is not here yet so I guess we stay at home + I’ll read the “Depot Master” aloud + after the rest have gone to bed look over the papers + follow the rest of the family. I shelled some clams last night + [envied] them
Monday 27 A beautiful day + my birth day. I am sixty eight years old. It looks strange as I write it. Soon the place that knew me once will know me no more for ever. No one seems to notice or feel interested but myself. That is the price on has to pay for growing old. I have no old friends + no one near me who speaks my language. Edith is talking of going to ride after dinner but I dont imagine Clarence will want to go. 430 We did not go to ride. Martha Barriss came in remembering it was my birthday + brought me her photograph. with her signature. I was greatly surprised I have not seen her for so long I had not expected to again. You never can tell. Am not feeling so well the last two or three days + am very nervous.
Sunday 26 Cloudy + dull + rained in the night. The first thing I heard when I woke was DeVerd’s voice. here again with his car. He wanted to stay here for the day but Edith wanted to go out, despite the threatening weather so we went + DeVerd went elsewhere. It rained all the time + twice Clarence had to get out to mend a tube. He got wet of course so I suppose he will get cold + we will have to listen to him coughing again. He is still going to the hospital to have his hand dressed so we dont know when he can use it. He will get paid for his vacation this year the first time in twenty five years.
