May 27, 1927: “The Baldwins are going to move”

Friday 27. Cold + dull with a high wind. We hear the Baldwins are going to move the last of June. We shall miss them + I think they will miss us. We will then not have an neighbor. We have lived here thirteen years but have no neighbors. Edith went in with her cards.

NOTES + EXPLANATIONS

Oh, life is still so difficult for poor Annie. Interesting to note – 13 years they’ve been living there at this point. This means they moved there in 1914. Her husband’s death was in 1909, so I wonder if they were able to stay in the house on Walnut Street in Somerville for some years before moving, or if they jumped around a bit before settling on Appleton Street. At some point in the near future they move from this address to Plymouth Street, also in Arlington.

On this day in history: May 27, 1927 (Friday)
  • The United Kingdom officially terminated diplomatic relations with the Soviet Union. A note from Foreign Secretary Neville Chamberlain, delivered to the Soviet legation at Chesham House in London, directed the chargé d’affaires and his staff to leave the country within ten days. “[54]
