February 23, 1927: “did not recover for some time”

Wednesday the twenty third
Cloudy + threating + the day of May Gavin’s birthday party. Her father took her in the car. The party was a great success, but as Audrea was not home at a quarter of six her mother went to look for her + met her on the way home. Audrea took offence at her mother’s going to meet her, + did not recover for some time.

NOTES + EXPLANATIONS

Nope! Not Audrey’s party. May Gavin‘s party. Why didn’t Audrey get a party?! It seems that Audrey is entering that wonderful pre-teen phase with the dresses and the parties with the cool girls and the annoying mother who keeps embarrassing her by coming to get her from the party. Sigh.

I like the way Annie describes Audrey’s hissy fit, though. She “did not recover for some time”.
