February 10, 1927: “a burden to himself”

Thursday the tenth
Have been neglecting my diary + all I can recollect of to day is that Mr. Mace came in got here before ten o’clock + stayed untill after three. poor man he must be a burden to himself. Is selling dolls dear me!

NOTES + EXPLANATIONS

Selling dolls, dear me!! That’s no job for a self-respecting man, clearly! Heehee.

Sigh.

Oh, Annie. Well, I’m not sure who Mr. Mace is, but he must know the family somehow if he felt comfortable staying in their house 5 hours (without selling any dolls, it sounds like)!

HISTORICAL CONTEXT:

Now, you may not have known this, but apparently 1927 was a somewhat significant year in the history of American dolls. You see, it was the year of the American-Japanese Friendship Doll Exchange! So there.
