January 31, 1927: “swollen past recognition”

Monday thirty first
A beautiful day but very windy. Edith came home a wreck. her face swollen past recognition with crying. It was harder than even the day of the funeral, for on that day there was a great deal of excitement, so many people + so much to do, but now they are all alone + realize more what has happened. I am afraid Edith will be sick if this keeps up long. Edith’s head troubles her so.

Not much to explain here. All still very upset about Mattie’s passing, and now the reality is setting in for them.

This is first time Annie has shown any concern really over her daughter, Edith. Sounds like maybe she gets migraines?
