January 27, 1927: “saddened us all”

Thursday the twenty seventh
A beautiful day + some warmer. Am feeling a little better perhaps, but my back is very painful + I feel bad otherwise. A pain around my heart + in my right side. Mrs. Parker’s sudden flitting has saddened us all. I say it over + over to my self that “she has gone” but I cant believe it. It seems that if I could go down I would find her waiting for me at the door

Apparently she is so worked up that she didn’t realize she wrote two entries for Thursday the 27th. Mattie’s death is greatly affecting her confidence in her own health it seems.

I’m interested to see if Annie and Mattie were close as well, or if the bond between the families was more from Edith and Lucy’s friendship.
