January 6, 1927: “dull as usual”

6th. A pleasant day but very windy. Audrea at home. Washed paint + ironed, am feeling tired. No one in, every thing dull as usual. Am worried about my check, has not come. I hope + pray it does soon.

Notes + Explanations:

The reference to the check is recurring and came up in a family scrapbook as well. Apparently a cousin (?), Ben Newcombe, was sending Annie checks every month. It’s not clear why. Perhaps he was trying to help after the death of her husband, but the relationship is not stated yet.
